During Fox's coverage of the World Series, they've given plenty of screen time to the numerous famous Chicago Cubs fans, including Bill Murray and John Cusack, who attended the three games played at Chicago's Wrigley Field. That hasn't sat well with another native of the Chicago area, Billy Corgan, who more or less accused them of jumping on the bandwagon.

“I don’t talk to other Cubs celebrities,” Corgan told the Chicago Tribune. “In fact, I’m anti-Cubs celebrity. Although I know a few Cubs celebrities, other Cubs celebrities tend to show up when the playoffs are around. I don’t necessarily see them in June. I might be a little biased being a Chicagoan year-round.”

The Cubs have a tradition of inviting celebrity fans to sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch, a nod to their legendary play-by-play announced, Harry Caray, who led the crowd in the song from his booth until his death in 1998. For their first appearance in the World Series since 1945, the Cubs brought in Murray, Vince Vaughn and, during Game FiveEddie Vedder to handle the responsibility.

Corgan sang that song (embedded above) on June 19, 2011, when the New York Yankees were in town. The Cubs lost that game, 10-4, and finished the season in fifth place in the National League Central Division with a 71-91 record. But while that season was typical for the Cubs for much of their history, the last few years have seen them become one of the best teams in the game, a position to which Corgan is still trying to adjust.

“It’s a bit surreal,” he continued. “Having come to this ballpark for over 40 years you reach a point where you start to think, ‘is this ever going to happen?’.” he continued. “I just love the way the team plays. I think that’s part of what the vibe is, not just the chance we have to win a World Series but we’re looking at a team that is going to be great for years to come.”

But rather than name modern stars who brought the Cubs to greatness like Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo or Jake Arrieta as his favorites, Corgan named some of the players from his childhood -- Bob Dernier, Mick Kelleher, Jose Cardenal and Andre Dawson -- as his all-time favorite Cubs.

The Cubs face the Cleveland Indians in a must-win Game Six tonight.
