On Saturday, August 6th, a collaboration of community partners and non-profit organizations will be hosting a Back to School Bash. This free event will take place at Comiskey Park from 12-4PM and will offer families a fun opportunity to learn about free resources in the community.

The event was planned to give families a one-stop-shop way of getting ready for the new school year including a chance to learn about before and after school opportunities, resources for families at school and home, a chance to sign up for St. Mark Youth Enrichment’s Apples for Students Program, and a fun way to celebrate school starting in a few weeks with family and community. Expect a fun filled day with academic and physical obstacles to kick off the school year.

Booths from various organization will be set up and representatives will be ready to meet families and answer any questions they may have. This includes booths from Amerigroup of Iowa, AmeriCorps, Boys and Girls Club, Boys Scout of America, Circles Initiative, Crow’s Nest, The Dream Center, Dubuque Black Men Coalition, Dubuque Campaign for Grade Level Reading, City of Dubuque Leisure Services, Hope Church, Inclusive Dubuque, J4BG Family Service, Life Connection, Macaroni Kid, Multicultural Family Center, Northeast Iowa Community College, Operation New View, Positive Production Plus, Resources Unite, Romper Stompers Child Care Center, Spark on Bluff, St. Mark Youth Enrichment, VNA, University of Dubuque: Education Department, Whalert First Tech Challenge, Women United Way as well as others that are being added daily. Music and games will also be a part of the event.

All community members are invited to attend and learn more about the organizations with services in our community to help children get back to school fully prepared to learn and grow academically and social-emotionally.
